Obey Nothing does not mean rejecting truth, expertise, law, ethics or responsibility. It means refusing automatic obedience. It means questioning ideas, rules and norms rather than accepting them simply because they were inherited, imposed or repeated.

Examine the evidence. What is actually known versus what is assumed, repeated or conveniently accepted? The quality of your conclusions depends on the quality of the evidence you are willing to demand.

Understand the incentive. People, institutions and systems behave according to what they are rewarded or punished for, not simply according to what they announce. If you cannot see the incentive, you cannot understand the behavior.

Authority is not truth. Expertise can be real and worth respecting, but authority alone does not make a claim correct. Distinguish between earned knowledge and inherited power.

Notice how identity shapes judgment. The labels you hold, whether professional, social or ideological, quietly filter what you are willing to see, question and admit. Awareness of identity is the first step toward seeing past it.

Status is an invisible currency. It drives decisions more powerfully than money, yet rarely announces itself. When you understand who is gaining or losing status in any situation, you understand motivations that otherwise seem irrational.

Notice what is shaping your judgment. Algorithms, feeds, social pressure and inherited defaults curate your information environment before you are even aware a choice exists. Independence begins with seeing the frame.

Ask who benefits. Every recommendation, narrative, default and framing has a beneficiary. Identifying that beneficiary does not make the recommendation wrong. It makes informed consent possible.

Then choose consciously. The objective is not rebellion. It is self-authorship: the practice of choosing your own frame, your own standards and your own conclusions instead of inheriting them by default.

Independence without responsibility is recklessness. Self-authorship includes the willingness to be wrong, to revise, and to own the consequences of your judgment. Obey Nothing is not freedom from accountability. It is the freedom to choose responsibly.
